HMRC Joint Filing Service Closed — What UK LTD Owners Must Know in 2026
As of 31 March 2026, HMRC has permanently closed the Joint Filing Service that allowed companies to submit their Annual Accounts and Company Tax Return (CT600) together through a single portal. This change affects every UK limited company — including those owned by non-residents.
What Changed?
Previously, small companies could use the HMRC- Companies House joint filing service to submit:
- Annual Accounts to Companies House
- Company Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC
— all in one go. That option no longer exists.
What You Must Do Now (from April 2026)
| Filing | Submit To | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Annual Accounts | Companies House (WebFiling or software) | 9 months after ARD |
| CT600 + Computations | HMRC (CT Online or software) | 12 months after ARD |
| Confirmation Statement | Companies House | Annually (review period) |
Why This Matters for Non-Resident LTD Owners
If you are a Polish entrepreneur with a UK limited company, the closure of the joint filing service adds complexity:
- Two separate systems — Companies House and HMRC have different login credentials, different interfaces, and different filing formats.
- Double the risk of errors — data must be consistent across both filings, but you now enter it twice.
- Historic returns inaccessible — HMRC has warned that previously filed joint returns are no longer accessible through the service. You need proper record-keeping.
Upcoming: P&L Filing for Small Companies (2028)
Under the ECCTA reforms, from 2028 even micro-entities and small companies will be required to file a Profit & Loss account with Companies House — not just the balance sheet. This is a significant change from the current regime where small companies only file an abridged balance sheet.
