The A1 Certificate confirms that an employee posted to work in another EU country remains subject to the UK social security system. The document is required for individuals who are posted abroad or work simultaneously in several countries. The Certificate avoids the double payment of social insurance contributions. A requirement for the Certificate is lawful employment in the UK for a minimum of one tax year prior to the application. An A1 Certificate cannot be obtained with a backdated effective date, for example for specific past years.
